I know I think cleaning coins takes away the authenticity of a coin and its originality.

hey sorry for posting so much recently, but i just started collecting coins. so far i have sorted a large amounts of my pennies by dates, and have at least 1 of every dated penny from 1958 to 2008. i then have scattered dates for my wheat pennies. as far as nickels go, i have 1 buffalo nickel, no date, and the complete westward journey series. i am currently working on getting all 50 state quarters, and have a couple bicentennial q’s.

Are you talking about the penny book? If i recall it only includes the S mint up until a certain year somewhere in the 70′s-80′s. But I’m sure some books will vary.
Or are you talking about the red book? Which includes all U.S. coins including S mints.

The indian head cent started in 1859 (not 1858) and the 1859 cent was made of a different composition than those starting in 1860 (to 1909. Everyone should have a flying eagle in their collection (only made for 3 years!) shoot me an email and I will send you one.

I have an entire roll of 1909-s vdb pennies!!! I went to my local bank and asked for a roll of bank wrapped pennies and the teller pulled out a roll and I looked at the front and it was a 1909-s and on the back I looked and there was a vdb. I was soooooo excited so I went home and opened the roll. IT WAS A COMPLETE ROLL OF 1909-S VDB PENNIES. ALMOST ALL OF THEM WERE AU-BU!!!!!!!!! IT WAS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!!!!
