Are you sure? Those notes you’re referring to are they the redeemable
silver and gold certificates of those respective denominations. Federal Reserve Notes of those denominations carry no substantiated ascertained redeemable values in granules nor gold/silver coinage. I remember as a kid in the 80′s the banks would get $500 and $1000 notes and they would allow customers to purchase them. My sister was a bank teller for several years she got a few $1000 bills and never said that you stated..

You are correct in that Silver and Gold Certificates are no longer able to be exchanged for silver or gold. They still can be used as legal tender though. Any time a $500 or $1,000 gets returned to the bank, the bank is supposed to return it to the Fed. If a teller or someone at the bank exchanges it before it goes to the Fed then they teller has the note and the Fed can’t destroy it. My mother was also a teller and saw $500′s come into the bank but she never had enough money to buy them.

Thank you, you can get the currecy holders from any coin shop or coin show. Some larger book stores have them like Border Books in the hobby section. You can also get them from Whitman online.

Yes you can spend them or trade them in at a bank but it would be pretty stupid to do. A well worn $1,000 note one the collector market should bring at least $1,600.

I’ve always thought that the older notes always looked more beautiful than the newer ones. it like they got lazy or something, and just made it more simpler.

I have a colorized 5 in my wallet. One thing that always annoys me is the front borders are never centered right, theres too much gap on the right side.
